Even though it doesn't go off-road, its on-road manners, agility, responsiveness, and sheer playfulness is readily apparent. One of the better looking non-scrambling scramblers, in our view. It just has that playful yet aggressive look, like its a cat about to go chasing a squirrel. Learn More: 2023 BMW R Nine T Scrambler specs, features, & pics
The Pure, launched at Intermot while we were on this trip, it has no off-road intentions, but the same awesome motor, and similar design, with the same suspension and brakes, just slightly
Fifty years ago, in 1969, the first BMW motorcycle rolled off the assembly line at BMW’s factory in Berlin Spandau. The new /5 series (pronounced “slash five”) included the R 50/5, R 60/5

Cheap option is to modify the original fork with a 20mm longer damper rod and racetech cartridges and get to 140mm travel, but you would also need an extended top fork cap off say hondas 750 Africa twin to raise ground clearance further (search forum for this). The damper rods are only ÂŁ35 each from bmw but would need a fabricator to extend
The scrambler fits in well with his style. BMW was smart to make many versioned models off the original R nine T. All of them so far are cheaper versions than the original too. The Scrambler is made with cheaper parts, bringing its starting price down to a range that competes well with other entry big-engine retro bikes in its class.
Moto Guzzi had one, as did BMW with an R Nine T variant. to a more respectable off-road ready 31.1 inches. slapping on some scrambler bits to a cruiser doesn't guarantee you success when
Don’t forget the lower sticker price, either, with the Scrambler at $13,000 vs $15,095 for a standard R nineT. Like the original R nineT, the Scrambler is the brainchild of BMW Motorrad designers Ola Stenegard and Rolan Stocker, custom builders themselves with their fingers on the pulse of the custom building scene.
JHO_R9T said: The 19" front wheel on the scrambler was selected by BMW for two reasons (my educated guess): 1. Larger front wheel diameter is advantageous in off-road situations to clear obstacles and provide stability in loose/rough terrain (similar to why mountain bikes are going to larger diameter wheels on the 29" / 29er bikes).
Just bought a Scrambler 1200 XC with Escape Kit. I test rode a 2017 BMW F800 GS, a Honda Africa Twin, an FTR 1200, a Scrambler 1200 XE, and sat on a Ducati Desert Sled (Dealer could not allow test ride). The Scrambler 1200 is the most comfortable bike I have ever ridden, right out of the box. A big part is the bench seat.
The BMW R Nine T Scrambler has a classic scrambler design, with a high-mounted exhaust and elevated off-road-style seats. The bike also features round headlights and a simple minimalist instrument panel. The design makes the Scrambler have an attractive and elegant classic retro look. Essentially I request all posts address 80/20 to 10/90 street to dirt ratio tires fitting 19 and 21" front rims we may be tempted to use on these minimally capable off-road motorcycles. The normal way to fill the R Nine T is to allow the fuel to reach the bottom of the plastic spacing tube. That said, when cruising on a long road trip I will often "over fill" the tank and fill until 1/2 way up the spacer tube to get that extra 1/3 gallon or whatever. Don't waste gasoline.
There are other off-road ready bits, including chunkier footrests and levers, as well as high mudguards. The engine is expected to be the same 1,170 cc, air/oil-cooled two-cylinder engine with an output of 109 bhp at 7,520 rpm and peak torque of 119 Nm at 6,000 rpm. With longer travel suspension, the off-road ready BMW R NineT G/S and Scrambler
Gelände Strasse, German for terrain road, represents one of the most successful and well known motorcycle lines of all time, the BMW G/S. Even though the RnineT Urban G/S and Scrambler both don’t hold the G/S title, I would still consider both these motorcycles to great grandchildren of the original 1980 R80 G/S.
Low centre of gravity. At 223kg (wet), the Urban G/S is a heavy machine. But, it isn’t a tall bike, and the low-slung cylinders of the boxer engine help keep the centre of gravity nice and low, which is noticeable when riding both on and off-road. Sure, it falls firmly into the soft-roading category, and is more suited to gravel or dirt roads

The r nine T Scrambler is meant for light off-roading fun, and thereby wears a 19-inch front wheel. Customers can opt for tubeless spoked-wheels. The bike is powered by the previous generation BMW oil-cooled, horizontally-opposed Twin “Boxer.”. The engine is the common platform which the r nine T range is built around.
